The counter is the business and the website never mentions it

An independent grocer competes with a chain on price and loses, then competes on the butcher counter and wins — except almost no grocery website says the counter exists. What is usually online is an address, a stock photo of vegetables and a Facebook page with a weekly flyer somebody photographed on a phone. Meanwhile the customer deciding where to buy meat for the weekend is checking whether you cut it fresh, whether it is halal, and whether they can order ahead.

What we do differently

The counter framed as the reason
Cut, weight, and a pickup window — the questions somebody actually asks at a butcher counter, answered on the page and built into the ordering. The counter is what a chain cannot copy, so it leads.
Weekly specials somebody can change on a Monday
One dated block, edited in a minute, that does not require a designer or a new flyer. Stale specials do more damage than none, so the cost of updating them has to be near zero.
Departments a shopper can scan
Produce, meat, dairy, dry goods, the international aisles — laid out the way the store is, so somebody looking for one thing can see in five seconds whether you carry it.
Order ahead without a full cart
For most independents the win is a pre-order collected in store, not a delivery operation with a fleet. The ordering slot is scoped to that and nothing heavier.

The marketing plays

Written for grocers & butchers — not recycled from another industry with the nouns swapped. This is the human half of the shop.

Google Business Profile

Grocery search is almost entirely "near me" and "open now", and the profile answers both before anyone reaches the site. Hours over a long weekend are worth more than any campaign.

Facebook community groups

Neighbourhood and diaspora food groups are where an independent grocer gets recommended. A weekly specials post in the right group outperforms broad paid reach.

Seasonal and religious calendars

Ramadan, Diwali, Easter, Lunar New Year — for a grocer these are the year's peaks, planned weeks ahead. Campaigns timed to them beat steady spend.

Instagram for the counter

A tray of cut meat or a delivery of produce that morning is the most persuasive thing a grocer posts. It is proof of freshness, which is the entire argument against the chain.

What we'd build for grocers

Not a drawing of a grocery site — the finished one, on the Starter Package spec this page describes. It is a sample business, not a client, and it says so on every page of it.

The store slot is framed for a butcher counter — cut, weight, pickup window — and the weekly specials are one dated block somebody swaps on a Monday.
